Julia King

Owner & Swim Instructor

Julia is the owner and lead instructor of Baybrook Swim School. She founded Baybrook at the age of 16, driven by a passion for swimming, teaching, and creating a safe, supportive environment where swimmers could build confidence and lifelong water skills. She is currently pursuing a Business degree in Marketing and Project Management at Liberty University and holds certifications as a National Lifeguard and Swim Instructor with the Lifesaving Society.

Julia’s love for swimming began through years of summer lessons that built both skill and confidence in the water, shaping her commitment to creating a positive and encouraging learning environment for swimmers of all ages.

As Baybrook Swim School continues to grow, Julia focuses on overseeing operations and supporting the instructional team. While she is not teaching full-time, she remains closely involved in maintaining Baybrook’s high standards of safety, professionalism, and quality.

Outside of the pool, Julia enjoys spending time with animals, being outdoors, and relaxing with a good cup of coffee. She is looking forward to another great season ahead at Baybrook!

Theodore Chiu

Swim Instructor

Returning for his fourth summer teaching at Baybrook, Theodore is a Lifesaving Society - certified Swim Instructor and National Lifeguard. He brings several years of experience teaching swimmers of all ages and abilities, with a strong focus on water safety, proper technique, and confidence-building.

A first-year Health Sciences student at McMaster University, Theodore has been involved in swimming from a young age, progressing from early lessons into several years of competitive swimming. His background has given him a strong understanding of skill development, endurance, and effective instruction.

Known for his patient, calm, and approachable teaching style, Theodore creates a supportive environment where swimmers feel comfortable, motivated, and appropriately challenged. He is passionate about helping swimmers build strong foundational skills while developing a genuine love for the water.

Outside of the pool, Theodore enjoys staying active and continuing his studies in Health Sciences. He is excited to return to Baybrook for another great summer of teaching and learning!

Macy Kriense Lokker

Swim Instructor

A dedicated high school student with a love for staying active and helping others, Macy brings energy and enthusiasm to her role as a Baybrook Swim School instructor. She is a certified National Lifeguard and Swim Instructor with the Lifesaving Society.

Over the past year, Macy gained valuable experience working with the Town of Newmarket, where she further developed her skills in aquatic safety and instruction. She was also a key member of the Baybrook Swim School team during the Summer 2025 season, playing an important role in teaching many lessons and helping swimmers build confidence and strong foundational skills.

Macy is known for her positive energy and patient teaching style, creating a welcoming and encouraging environment where swimmers feel supported and motivated to succeed. She is committed to ensuring every swimmer has a safe, enjoyable, and rewarding experience in the water.

Outside of swimming, Macy is a former provincial-level gymnast, plays Level 8 piano through the Royal Conservatory, and stays active by running with the Newmarket Huskies. In the summer, she enjoys spending time at her grandparents’ lakeside cottage, where her love for the water continues to grow. She is excited to return to Baybrook for another great season!

Eve Overbeek

Swim Instructor

Eve is a first-year college student and returning Baybrook Swim School instructor with a strong passion for swimming and working with children. Last summer marked her first year teaching at Baybrook, where she quickly developed a love for helping swimmers build confidence and skills in the water. Eve holds all required swimming certifications, including her National Lifeguard and Swim Instructor certifications with the Lifesaving Society.

With five years of experience in after-school care and babysitting, Eve brings patience, responsibility, and a thoughtful teaching approach to every lesson. Her background has strengthened her interest in mentoring children and creating a safe, supportive, and encouraging learning environment.

Eve loves sharing her enthusiasm for swimming with her students and takes pride in helping them feel confident and capable in the pool. A fun fact about Eve is that she comes from a very tall family, and this summer she is looking forward to spending lots of time outdoors and enjoying the warm weather at Baybrook!

Sarah Overbeek

Swim Instructor

Sarah is a graduating high school senior and first-year instructor at Baybrook Swim School, bringing a lifelong love for swimming and a genuine passion for working with children to the pool. She grew up with a pool in her backyard, where she developed early water confidence, and later participated in formal swim lessons to improve her endurance and refine her strokes.

Sarah has successfully completed the Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross courses and is a certified Swim Instructor under the Lifesaving Society. She is scheduled to earn her National Lifeguard certification in March of 2026. Sarah hopes to pursue a future in elementary education and is passionate about helping children grow in confidence, listening skills, and swimming ability. She strives to create a positive, encouraging, and supportive learning environment where every child feels motivated and cared for, no matter their starting point.

As she prepares to graduate high school and begin her first summer teaching at Baybrook, Sarah is excited to share her enthusiasm for swimming and make a meaningful impact on her students. A fun fact about Sarah is that she is the middle child of five siblings! Outside of the pool, she is looking forward to enjoying the warm summer weather and spending quality time with family and friends.

Kitari Loney

Swim Instructor

Kitari is a first-year instructor at Baybrook Swim School and a university student with a strong passion for swimming and teaching. She holds all required Lifesaving Society certifications, including her National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, and First Aid, and brings nearly two years of experience as a swim instructor and lifeguard with the town. Through her work in a variety of aquatic settings - including outdoor pools where she managed sun glare and visibility challenges - Kitari has developed a patient, adaptable, and confidence-focused teaching style.

She is especially passionate about teaching older teens and adults who are new to swimming, and finds great fulfillment in helping swimmers grow, gain independence, and feel proud of their progress. Kitari creates a positive, encouraging environment where swimmers feel supported every step of the way.

Outside of the pool, Kitari enjoys traveling and learning about new cultures. A fun fact about her is that she spent a month and a half living in the Dominican Republic teaching English and math, and this summer she is looking forward to traveling to Germany and going on a road trip. She is looking forward to her first summer at Baybrook!
